WOMMeN breast screening hub – update

A huge thank you to all those 100+ women who took up the challenge (below) to join our user design group. Our work is now complete! The hub is finally available for you to see and to join in the discussions on breast screening. We do hope you will join us on there.

Who we are?
We are a group of health practitioners and university lecturers and we would be delighted if you would be willing to get involved in our research to design an on-line hub about breast screening mammograms in the UK.

Why we are designing an online hub

From experience, and from talking to women previously, we have discovered that many of you don’t really know what to expect when you’re invited for breast screening. This can lead to anxiety and even result in some women deciding not to turn up. Other women have told us they want more information about the benefits and disadvantages of breast screening so they can make an informed choice about whether to attend.
We have therefore decided to put together an on-line space for women to talk to others and to health professionals about breast screening and, in particular, what having a mammogram is like.

How you can get involved
We would love those women who would be potential users of the hub to be the designers too! If you would like to be part of this exciting research project we would be delighted to hear from you. This will involve you sending us your ideas about content, for instance, what information women need to have and how you would like to chat to others on the site. Once we have put a prototype together from your ideas, we will give you access to this for comment about layout and whether the tone feels right; too technical?, too formal?, not professional enough? etc.
We know you are busy so will ask you to send your thoughts and ideas on-line rather than expect you to attend meetings. You can therefore get involved at any time that suits you best. You can email or private message us if you prefer to remain anonymous, or you can join in the chats with others on our project Facebook or Twitter links.

What do I do now?
If you are interested please can you email the project leader Leslie Robinson at l.robinson@salford.ac.uk or private message Leslie on Twitter (follow using link on left of page) or visit the WOMMeN Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/WOMMeN/
Please share this with your friends. The more women are involved with the design of the hub the more diverse will be its appeal!

What if I am not happy with the conduct of the research?
If you wish to complain about any aspect of this study you can contact Anish Kurien, College R&I Manager, a.kurien@salford.ac.uk.
