Social Media and breast screening? – call for mammographers to participate in an exciting project

The WOMMeN research team are conducting an Action Research study to develop a mammographer-led online information service for clients invited for breast cancer screening. This is supported by the College of Radiographers Industry Partnership Scheme

Are you  mammographer working in the NHS Breast Screening Service?

Then why not join us at one of our free exploratory workshop days?

Friday 18th December, University of Salford, or

Tuesday 19th January, Kingston University, or

Tuesday 15th March, Leeds University

(Nottingham is being arranged for 19th of February – tbc)

Social Media (SoME) is set to be very important for improving the patient experience and is already being used in other health and social care settings for health promotion, improving communication with patients, preparing them for examinations and alleviating anxieties. However, there is evidence to suggest radiographers are worried about using SoMe. We will be running 4 (repeated) practitioner workshops across England to help us understand why.

What is involved?
The workshop day will consist of information and discussion about SoMe and how it can be used in the breast screening context. We will ask you to share your concerns and ideas to feed into the project research data.

Who should attend and why?
We are inviting one mammographer, and their manager, from each Breast Screening Unit. For those who are interested, there will be an opportunity to become a local SoMe champion and this will be explained. We will also provide support to help you develop SoMe communication skills.

Who knows about this project?
We are informing all managers about this project and also inviting them to attend. We do suggest you discuss your intention to attend with your manager though. The project is supported by the College of Radiographers and the Lead Breast Screening Radiographer for Cancer Screening an d Prevention.

Does it cost anything to attend?
The workshop day is provided free of charge and includes lunch and refreshments. Unfortunately we cannot provide travel expenses.
